Obituary: Janice Gayle Whitman

Janice Gayle Whitman (née Jones), 80, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully Friday, Oct. 19, 2018, at Marliere Hospice Care Center in New Port Richey, Florida.

Janice was born April 5, 1938 in Jefferson County to Doris Livingston Jones and Mary Ruby (née Hodges) Sterling. She was a resident of Port Arthur for most of her youth. Janice married Robert Dale Whitman on April 18, 1958, and the couple had four children, Lisa, Robert, Terri and Carla. She enjoyed many activities including sewing, ceramics, cooking, gardening, crocheting, fishing, boating, and traveling.  Janice was the founder and owner of Sterling Manor ACLF (adult assisted care living facility), and owned her own flower arranging business. Throughout her life, she has been a resident of Texas, California, Minnesota and Florida. She was a member of Seven Rivers Presbyterian Church in Lecanto, Florida, as well as Valley Christian Church in Lakeville, Minnesota. She was active in Beta Sigma Phi, and a volunteer for her church, and multiple activities her children were involved in.

Janice was preceded in death by her mother and father, brother Carl, and husband Robert Dale Whitman.

Surviving relatives include her children, Lisa Tamplin, Robert (Katherine) Whitman, Terri Whitman, Carla (Gregory) Bast, brother Bobby (Sharon) Jones, eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial gathering will take place on Cow Bayou River, Texas, at a future date.
