One arrested in strangulation death

On August 11, at 6:58 p.m. Robert Lewis, 62, of Beaumont, was arrested for the murder of George Erwin, a 63 year old Beaumont man, Officer Carol Riley said in a release.

Erwin was at Lewis’s residence and the two got into a disturbance. Preliminary investigation revealed strangulation as suspected cause of death.

Lewis was booked in to Jefferson County Correctional Facility after being interviewed by investigators.

Earlier in the day, at 7:30 a.m., Beaumont Police responded to an apartment in the 2800 block of Pine Street in reference to a disturbance. When officers arrived, they located two men inside the apartment, one of which was deceased. The second man was detained and is being interviewed by detectives. The victim’s identity is not being released pending next of kin notification. The investigation is on-going.
