One dead after driver hits guardrail on I-10 and goes airborne

On Jan. 10, at about 5:00 a.m., the Texas Department of a Public Safety (DPS) responded to a one vehicle crash on I-10 in Orange County near exit 860, Sgt. Stephanie Davis said in a release.

Preliminary reports indicate that a Pontiac passenger vehicle was traveling westbound in the outside traffic lane of I-10. For an unknown reason, the driver struck the outside guardrail, causing the vehicle to go airborne. The vehicle continued down the roadway and struck a second guardrail before coming to rest.

The driver, Jeremy Michael Martinez, 37, of Nederland, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace Joy Simonton.

The passenger, a 42-year-old Beaumont woman, was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth hospital with serious injuries and remains hospitalized, according to DPS's most recent statement.

This crash remains under investigation.
