One dead in shooting at Port Arthur Inn

Jan. 7, at about 4:47 p.m., officers from Port Arthur Police Department responded to a shooting in room 157 at the Port Arthur Inn at 3889 Gulfway Drive, City of Port Arthur spokesperson LaRisa Carpenter said in a release Jan. 8.

Upon arrival, they found a man, later identified as John M. Sinegal, 45, inside the room with a single gunshot wound to the chest. Emergency service arrived on scene and transported Sinegal to St. Elizabeth for medical treatment. Sinegal passed on the way to the hospital.

Port Arthur Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division was sent to investigate the incident.

From the investigation, detectives were able obtain evidence and probable cause to charge Jeremy Mesa Bell, 32, of Port Arthur with manslaughter and felon in possession of a firearm in relation to the shooting death of Sinegal.
