Overnight homicide in Beaumont

Detectives are working to determine the circumstances surrounding a shooting that left a 27-year-old Beaumont man dead, reports the Beaumont Police Department.

According to a news release from BPD, a woman phoned the 911 Dispatch Center to report a shooting had just occurred at a house located in the 4600 block of Abilene Street on Thursday, January 15, at about 9:11 p.m. Patrol officers responding to the scene found Charles Bluitt deceased. Bluitt had possible gunshot wounds to his upper body, reports BPD.

At this early stage in the investigation, detectives are interviewing possible witnesses, the BPD Crime Scene Unit is processing the scene, and Justice of the Peace Ransom Jones has ordered an autopsy.

Detectives also reportedly found a quantity of narcotics both outside and inside the house where Bluitt was killed and are working to determine if there was a link between his death and the narcotics.
