Pedestrian struck and killed on Twin City Highway

On Sept. 16, at about 12:30 a.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) responded to an auto-pedestrian crash on Highway 347, near Monroe Street, in Jefferson County, Sgt. Stephanie Davis said in a release.

Preliminary reports indicate that a 2002 Acura passenger vehicle was traveling northbound on Highway 347. A pedestrian was attempting to cross the highway when she was struck by the Acura.

The pedestrian, Deja Louise Ellis, 36, of Port Arthur was transported by ambulance to Southeast Texas Medical Center with serious injuries. Ellis did not survive her injuries and was pronounced deceased a short time later by hospital personnel.

The driver of the Acura, 43-year-old Rahim Hirani of Port Arthur, was not injured in the crash.

This is an ongoing investigation as troopers work to determine the exact factors that contributed to this fatal crash.
