Perry vetoes Texting while Driving Ban

Texas Governor Rick Perry vetoed a bill on Friday that would have banned texting while driving throughout the state.

In his veto message, Perry said, "I believe there is a distinction between the overreach of (the texting ban bill) and the government's legitimate role in establishing laws for teenage drivers who are more easily distracted and laws providing further protection to children in school zones."

Perry did admit that texting while driving is "reckless and irresponsible," however he would like to combat the problem through educating drivers.

It is illegal in Texas for drivers under the age of 18 to text while driving.
