Pinehurst Police arrest aggravated robbery suspect

Pinehurst Police have apprehended the man they believe to be responsible for an aggravated robbery that occurred Nov. 7 at the Dollar General store located 2500 MLK Jr. Drive in Pinehurst. On Thursday, Dec. 26, police arrested 59-year-old Mark Nathan McLelland of Orange.

According to a news release from the Pinehurst Police Department, Chief Fred R. Hanauer announced the arrest after McLelland was taken into custody subsequent to an indictment handed down by the Orange County Grand Jury alleging the man’s involvement in the November robbery. Chief Hanauer and Lt. Keith Reneau of the Pinehurst PD and Precinct 2 Constable David Cagle served the warrant on McLelland at a residence in the 3800 block of Cochran Street in Orange. If convicted, McLelland faces 5 to 99 years and a fine of $10,000 for aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony.
