Pinehurst police nab burglary suspect

Pinehurst police picked up an armed suspect in possession of methamphetamine while the man was reportedly in the process of burglarizing a storage facility, reports Chief Fred Hanauer III.

According to Hanauer, Pinehurst Officer Leonard Roff responded to an alarm at U-Rent Alls at 1628 Strickland Dr. in Pinehurst at 9:59 p.m. Nov. 8. When he arrived, Roff began searching the inside of the business with the assistance of the West Orange Police Department. He quickly discovered that the office area had been ransacked and was in a state of total disarray.

Upon investigating the warehouse portion of the building, officers located a man hiding beneath several empty cardboard boxes. Roff recognized the subject as 33-year-old Michael Allen Anderson, who lists an Orange address. Officers say Anderson was in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun and a white, crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine.

Anderson was charged with burglary of a building, a State Jail Felony, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, a 3rd degree felony, possession of a controlled Substance, a State Jail Felony, an outstanding parole warrant and 3 warrants issued by the Orange Municipal Court. He was transported to the Orange County Jail for booking.


If convicted, Anderson faces up to 20 years in prison, two years in a state jail and a fine as much as $20,000.
