Pit bull mauls mail carrier

Beaumont Animal Services and Beaumont EMS responded to a call about a dog attacking a postal carrier Tuesday, Aug. 28, at 1465 Irma in Beaumont’s south end. Upon the officer’s arrival, the victim, Alice Richmond, was being treated by EMS for multiple punctures and lacerations to her hands, legs, torso and face. Richmond was later transferred to St. Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment. Apparently the dog had broken free of a chain while the mail carrier was delivering mail to 1465 Irma. The dog was caught by Animal Services and taken to the Animal Shelter for a 10 day quarantine. The case is still being investigated to determine if the dog will be declared dangerous.
