Plea agreement sends Beaumont man to prison for double murder

Chinchilla

Criminal District Attorney Cory Crenshaw announced today that Jose Chinchilla, of Beaumont, was sentenced to 50 years in prison in connection with a double murder that was committed on June 12, 2012, according to a July 16 press release.

According to offense reports, on June 12, 2012, police were called to a home in Beaumont in reference to a shooting.  When police arrived on scene, they determined that Francisca Garza and Gregorio Sanchez had been shot outside the residence.  Witnesses that were present during the altercation stated that Jose Chinchilla came to the residence to speak with Francisca Garza, his girlfriend.  Garza was at the home to visit the father of her three children and his family. While there, Chinchilla and Garza began to argue.  Gregorio Sanchez attempted to intervene and asked Chinchilla to leave.  Witnesses say they heard six or seven gun shots and found that Sanchez and Garza had been shot.  Both victims died at the scene.

Assistant District Attorney Rachel Grove said, “Chinchilla took the lives of two innocent people.  Both victims left behind children and families.  Hopefully this sentence can bring some peace to those families and show them that justice was served.  Chinchilla deserves every day of his 50 year sentence.”

The offense of murder is a first degree felony which carries a punishment between 5-99 years or life in prison.  The defendant must serve at least 25 years before being considered for parole based on current parole law.
