Police arrest felon for possession of firearm, evading arrest

Police in Beaumont arrested a felon in possession of a firearm and evading arrest after the man fled during a traffic stop June 1, reports Officer Haley Morrow.

According to Morrow, a Beaumont Police Department (BPD) officer initiated a traffic stop near 11th Street and Sweetgum when the driver of the vehicle jumped out and fled on foot. The officer quickly apprehended the suspect, identified as 38-year-old David Ashton Wells, a convicted felon. During a search of the vehicle, officers located marijuana and a firearm. Wells was placed under arrest for evading and for felon in possession of a firearm. He was transported and booked into the Jefferson County Jail.
