Police arrest gun-wielding suspect from Nederland High

Police in Nederland arrested a part-time student who reportedly brought a gun to the Nederland High School campus on Oct. 15.

According to a news release from the Nederland Police Department, officers responded to the school at about 10:15 a.m. this morning in regard to 18-year-old Chase Alan Petitjean leaving the campus in possession of a firearm. Police quickly located Petitjean near the intersection of Spurlock Road and 18th Street. The suspect was not in possession of any firearms when apprehended, but investigators discovered two 9mm pistols behind a building in the immediate vicinity. One of the weapons was non-operational, but the other was in working order and loaded, NPD reports.

Officers say Petitjean confessed that the firearms were his and that he carried them onto school property. He was arrested for Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon in a Prohibited Place, a third-degree felony.
