Police arrest man who fired shots at gas station

Quentin D. Roy

On Sunday, August 13, at about 11:30 p.m., Beaumont Police responded to J & J Express gas station, located at 3120 W. Cardinal Drive, in reference to shots fired, Officer Haley Morrow said in a release.

Witnesses gave a description of the suspect and the vehicle he was driving, as well as a direction of travel when he left the store. While in route to the call, a BPD Officer located the suspects' vehicle, traveling north bound on 4th street, near Washington Boulevard.

The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop of the vehicle but the driver, later identified as Quentin D. Roy, 39, of Beaumont, fled in his vehicle. Roy fled down Washington Boulevard to I-10 and continued evading on I-10 eastbound, taking the MLK exit, where he crashed his vehicle when he failed to negotiate a northbound turn under the freeway.

Roy was taken into custody without incident and transported to a local hospital before going to the jail. Investigation revealed that Roy had a disturbance inside the J & J Express store, during which, he displayed a handgun and then while leaving, fired shots in the air.

Roy was arrested for discharging firearm in municipality and evading detention arrest in motor vehicle.
