Police arrested a Silsbee teen for possession of a controlled substance after reportedly finding crack cocaine and marijuana during a traffic stop on April 18.

At about 11 p.m. that evening, Vidor Police Department Officer Matthew Custer stopped a 2012 black, four-door Ford that was traveling 98 mph in a 75 mph speed zone. Custer reports that when he went to the vehicle to speak to the driver, identified as 18-year-old Loni Swearingen, he could smell the odor of burnt marijuana emanating from the vehicle. He executed a “probable cause search” of the vehicle and immediately found the remnants of multiple burnt marijuana cigarettes, stated the officer. In the glove compartment, he discovered a tin with a white, rock-like substance inside, identified by Custer as crack cocaine.

Swearingen was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana, and transported to the Orange County Jail.
