Police arrest third suspect in Nederland homicide

Dcobien Dorsey

Police caught and arrested a third suspect June 8 in relation to the May 9 murder of Nederland resident Michael Legg, Chief Gary Porter reports.

Officers investigating an alert from a Ring security system at a residence on Beauxart Garden Road May 9 found 40-year-old Michael Legg deceased at a neighboring home, determined by police to be the result of foul play. The Ring video supplied by the caller reporting the alert showed two distinctly male figures creeping across the porch of the home where the camera was installed.

While investigating the crime, officers soon identified one of the male suspects in the video as 23-year-old Duane Lamonte Owens Jr., and subsequently arrested Owens and his girlfriend, 24-year-old Ashlie Cherie Martinez, both of Beaumont. They are charged with capital murder.

Though police had two suspects in custody, one was female, and the video clearly showed another male besides Owens. So, the quest for information, and a third suspect, continued. Police were later able to identify the third suspect as 19-year-old Dcobien James Dorsey. Once they had his name, investigators then reached out to the public for help.

Ultimately, those efforts paid off. Officers found and arrested Dorsey in Port Arthur at about 10:30 a.m. on June 8. He too is charged with capital murder in relation to Legg's death. His bond was set for $1 million, and Dorsey, along with his two suspects cohorts, remained behind bars at the Jefferson County Jail at the time of this report.
