Police arrest Vidor man accused of stealing from former employer

Police in Vidor arrested 21-year-old Trevor Duane Edwards May 4 after the manager of a fast food establishment where Edwards once worked said the former employee snuck behind the counter and into the manager’s office, stealing a wad of cash and fleeing in spite of being spotted in the act.

According to a police report from Vidor Police Department Officer Stephen Rivers, former Whataburger employee Edwards entered the restaurant on Main Street and spoke to the manager in charge at almost 2 a.m. The manager went to the cooking area to retrieve supplies, reports Rivers, and came back to find Edwards leaving the office area carrying a large amount of cash. Edwards then reportedly fled in a northerly direction.

Officers caught up with Edwards at a trailer in the 500 block of East Freeway. Officer Edward Spera reported that investigators found more than $300 in Edwards’ wallet and hundreds more stuffed into two diapers located at the residence but did not recover nearly $200 of the amount reported stolen from Whataburger. Edwards was arrested for theft and taken to the Orange County Jail.
