Law enforcement chased a suspect that began in Houston and ended near Winnie on Oct. 12, Jefferson County Sheriff's deputy Marcus McLellan said in a release.

On Oct. 12 at 12:52 p.m., the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was advised that Houston Police pursuing a stolen Dodge Challenger Hellcat headed into Jefferson County.

Deputies were dispatched to I-10 near Winnie. The suspect vehicle exited on TX 73 headed towards Port Arthur. There was information that the suspect had a long gun and pointed it at officers during the pursuit prior to entering Jefferson County.

The Texas Department of Public Safety, Houston Police Department, Chambers County Sheriff’s Office, and Gulf Coast Violent Fugitive Taskforce were involved in the pursuit when they entered Jefferson County where the sheriff’s office picked up the pursuit.

The chase continued east bound on TX 73 until the driver pulled over onto the shoulder just past Country Club Road, six miles west of Port Arthur. Then he bailed out on foot. The sheriff's office said they believe he ran out of gas. DPS troopers and Jefferson County deputies began searching the area on foot. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s helicopter was requested to assist in the search.

The suspect was located on the ground by deputies and troopers, which was confirmed by sheriff’s helicopter pilots in the air. The suspect refused stop and was taken to the ground by deputies. He transported by helicopter to TX 73 where he was turned over to Gulf Coast Violent Fugitive Taskforce.

The suspect was identified as Mohamed Ahmed Abu-Shlieb, 25, of Houston.

He had two outstanding warrants and was in possession of the stolen car that he was driving. He was taken before Justice of the Peace Judge Chesson for arraignment and was returned to Houston.

"We would like to congratulate all agencies involved on a job well done," the sheriff's office said in a statement.
