A 28-year-old Vidor man died while attempting to evade police officers on a motorcycle.

At 11:50 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6, officers attempted to stop the driver of a 2002 Yamaha motorcycle in the area of Center and Ashley. The driver refused to stop and led officers on a brief pursuit, traveling east on the IH-10 Service Road, running  the red light at MLK and striking a 2005 tan Yukon.

The motorcyclist, identified by police as 28-year-old Zachariah Kondos, was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital by EMS and pronounced deceased shortly after arrival. There were six passengers in the Yukon who had non-life-threatening injuries, a mother and five children.

Kondos was driving with a suspended license and had an assault – family violence warrant out in Jefferson County when he evaded police officers. The crash is still being investigated.
