Police identify homeless woman killed in hit and run

The homeless woman killed in a hit and run on College Street has now been identified, BPD PIO Carol Riley said in a release Dec. 5.

"The victim has been identified as Bonnie Lee Casaneve, 67 year old homeless white female," Riley said in her statement. She added that the victim was struck while pushing a shopping cart.

In an earlier statement, BPD PIO Haley Morrow said that BPD was notified of an autopedestrian crash in the 8300 block of College Street on Thursday, Dec. 1 about 8:31 p.m. BPD's preliminary investigation indicated that the woman had been walking south across College Street when a white car traveling westbound, with possibly tinted windows, struck her and fled the scene.

According to Morrow's statement, the woman was hit again by another vehicle, but "the driver of the second vehicle and another non-involved party stopped and called police."

As of Dec. 5, the first driver has still not been found, according to Riley. "Investigators are asking that the driver please come forward and do the right thing," Riley said.

BPD investigators are attempting to locate the suspect vehicle. If you have any information about this crash, call Beaumont Police at (409) 832-1234 or Southeast Texas Crime Stoppers at 409.833.TIPS (8477).
