Police investigate two shootings in Port Arthur

Police in Port Arthur are investigating two March 9 shootings they believe to be related, reports the Port Arthur Police Department. 

According to news releases from PAPD, officers responded to reports of a large fight with shots fired at Gilham Circle Park at about 5:50 p.m. The parties involved had fled the scene prior to officers' arrival, and police were soon dispatched to St. Mary's Hospital in reference to a gunshot victim. Investigation revealed that a 17-year-old male had been shot in the leg during the Gilham Circle Park incident. The teen was treated and released from the hospital.

Shortly after 9 p.m. the same evening, officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of Thomas Boulevard in reference to a second shooting. Investigating officers discovered that an unknown actor or actors had fired several rounds at a residence injuring a 47-year-old man who had been watching television in a front bedroom of his home. The victim was transported to St. Mary's Hospital, where he was treated and released.  

Police report that the preliminary investigation indicates the two shootings are related. The Criminal Investigations Division is working on the cases.
