The Beaumont Police Department celebrated K-9 Joris's sixth birthday on Aug. 11, posting a picture of the police dog and his handler in a popular Facebook post that has garnered hundreds of "likes."

The Facebook post shows a photo of the pair with birthday wishes included, reading, "The Beaumont Police Department would like to wish K-9 Joris a Happy 6th Birthday!"

Joris is a Belgian Malinois, a breed described by the Amercian Kennel Club as "smart, confident, hardworking, and steadfastly loyal," ranging in size from 22 to 26 inches in height and weighing from 40 to 80 pounds. Police departments often utilize the breed as they are considered highly trainable and very active. Four of six K-9 units with the BPD are Belgian Malinois, according to the department's most recent annual report. Joris has served with the department since January 2014. His handler is Officer Adam Little.
