Police make one arrest in early morning shooting

Detectives with the Beaumont Police Department arrested a suspect in an early morning shooting that occurred Thursday, Feb. 25, BPD Officer Carol Riley reported.

According to Riley, officers responded to the 4100 block of Maida Road in reference to a victim of a shooting at 3:21 a.m. Upon their arrival at the scene, they located a 33-year-old black female on the floor of an apartment with an apparent gunshot wound to her top left chest. EMS transported the woman to St. Elizabeth Hospital.

The victim’s injuries are reported not to be life-threatening, but she was not able to speak with the detectives initially.

Detectives were interviewing possible witnesses and examining evidence after the shooting. They have since identified a suspect and arrested Beaumont resident Jonathan Matthew Scott, 41, on charges of aggravated assault with a firearm in the shooting of his girlfriend at the Maida Road apartment. Scott was interviewed by detectives at the Family Violence Unit and transported to the Jefferson County Jail.
