Police say intoxicated man injured child
A Port Arthur man is in the Jefferson County Jail after police say he seriously injured a 2-year-old toddler.
Pierce Artasa Bryant, 28, was indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury Dec. 19 for injury to a child, a third-degree felony.
According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by The Examiner, a bystander called police to relay a frightening story of Bryant’s abuse in the parking lot of the Port Arthur Townhomes at 3500 Turtle Creek Drive.
The caller told police Bryant picked the 2-year-old male child “up by his feet and dropped him on the concrete parking lot where he landed on his head. The child was then kicked by the adult and he also laid on the child, rolling around on top of him” possibly in an attempt to silence the child, the affidavit said.
The child was rushed to the Medical Center of Southeast Texas where doctors noticed several swollen areas to the child’s head.
The affidavit said Bryant appeared to be intoxicated. He was arrested Nov. 6 and is in the Jefferson County Jail on a $25,000 bond. He is set to appear in Judge Larry Gist’s Drug Impact Court Jan. 27, 2014.
