Police search for shooting victim's estranged boyfriend

Police in Nederland are searching for a shooting victim's estranged boyfriend, identified by Chief Gary Porter as 48-year-old David Whittington Jr. 

The victim was rushed into surgery at a local medical facility Dec. 21 after being shot twice while at home. Later the same day, District Judge Larry Gist issued a warrant for Whittington's arrest for aggravated assault-family violence. Whittington's bond was set at $50,000. 

NPD officers responded to a residence in the 1100 block of Detroit Avenue in Nederland at 6:11 a.m. in reference to a shooting. Upon their arrival to the locaiton, they learned that a 35-year-old Hispanic female had been shot and transported by private vehicle to the Medical Center of South East Texas. The victim was then transported to St. Elizabeth hospital by Acadian ambulance service.

The victim had reportedly been shot twice with a small caliber handgun, once in the chest and once in the head, and was in surgery at 8:53 a.m., according to information from Chief Porter.

Whittington was last seen running from the scene of the shooting. Police assume he is still armed. Porter cautions that anyone with information on Whittington's whereabouts should immediately call their local police department.
