Police search for suspects in separate robberies

Suspects, one wielding a machete, robbed a woman on I-10 in Beaumont the same night a local convenience store was robbed at gunpoint, reports Beaumont Police Department (BPD) Officer Haley Morrow.

According to Morrow, at 10:55 p.m., officers responded to the first of two aggravated robberies reported on Sept. 18. In that incident, the victim stated that a suspect brandishing a machete demanded her property. She said she had been accosted by two males in a white SUV.

A short time later, officers located the suspect vehicle on Sarah Street. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver began to evade at a high rate of speed. The suspect drove the vehicle onto the dead end street on Rapha, and the two suspects fled on foot. The passenger was apprehended; however, the driver was not located. The 13-year-old suspect who was detained was transported to the Minnie Rogers Juvenile Detention Center, where he was charged with aggravated robbery.

About an hour later, at 11:57 p.m., officers responded to the Exxpress Mart located at 1650 W. Cardinal Drive in reference to another aggravated robbery. The investigation revealed that a male, wearing all black with something covering his face, entered the store armed with a handgun and demanded money from the clerk. After robbing the store, the suspect fled on foot prior to officers’ arrival.

Both investigations are ongoing. Police ask that anyone with information call Beaumont police at (409) 832-1234 or Southeast Texas Crime Stoppers at 409-833-TIPS (8477).
