Police searching for suspect in vehicle pursuit

Police in Orange are searching for a suspect who led them on a chase ending at an apartment complex and then got away on foot, reports the Orange Police Department.

According to a news release from OPD, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 3100 block of 16th Street at about 9:40 p.m. on April 22, but the driver of the vehicle failed to stop, instead continuing to travel northbound on 16th Street. The driver then turned westbound onto Clark Lane, traveled north onto Meeks Drive to Allie Payne and turned west to drive into the Fox Run Apartment Complex.

When the vehicle stopped for the entrance gate to open, officers approached on foot. As officers were approaching the vehicle, the driver began to accelerate in the direction of one officer who was standing near the driver’s side of the vehicle. At that time, a second officer at the scene fired two rounds from his duty weapon into the passenger-side front tire of the vehicle. The vehicle continued into the complex for a short distance before the driver stopped and fled on foot. Officers pursued the suspect on foot but were unable to apprehend him.

No one was injured and no property was damaged during this incident, reports OPD. This investigation is ongoing by the City of Orange Detective Division.
