Police working to identify hit-and-run driver

Police in Beaumont are working to identify the driver in a fatal hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a 51-year-old transient, reports Beaumont Police Department Sgt. Cody Guedry.

At approximately 2:16 a.m. on May 29, Beaumont police officers responded to an auto-pedestrian accident in the 2600 block of Franklin. When Officers arrived they found the victim unresponsive in the roadway with injuries apparently caused by a vehicle. The vehicle, an older truck with front-end damage, fled eastbound on Franklin after striking the victim, witnesses reported. The victim, identified as Phillip Duke Grey, age 51, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Beaumont Police Traffic Division took over the ongoing investigation. Guedry said May 31 that investigators are examining surveillance video from the area and interviewing residents of the neighborhood.
