Port Arthur fight leaves one in critical condition

A fight at a Port Arthur pool hall Monday night, July 1, left one person in critical condition with a head injury, police reported.

At approximately 11:05 p.m. on July 1, the Port Arthur Police Department received and responded to a call regarding a physical altercation at Crazy 8's Pool Hall at 1250 Highway 365, according to a news release from PAPD. While investigating the incident, officers discovered a fight had taken place earlier, but the subjects involved did not wish to press charges. One woman was arrested at the scene for public intoxication, and on subject involved in the incident was transported to St. Mary's Hospital for treatment.

At approximately 1:56 a.m., officers were called to St. Mary's by hospital staff. The subject who was being treated there in relation to the altercation was in critical condition as the result of a head injury suffered during the fight. The subject was transported via helicopter to Herman Hospital in Houston for further treatment.

Police detectives are currently investigating and questioning those involved in the incident and witnesses. No names are being released at this time.
