Port Arthur fire displaces family
The Port Arthur Fire Department Arson Division is investigating a fire that broke out at a two-story apartment in Port Arthur Friday morning, Sept. 20. The apartment, located in the 1900 block of 10th Avenue, caught on fire around 7:15 a.m., said PAFD Battalion Chief Mike Free.
"It's not a complex," Free said. "It is two-story ... maybe two efficiency apartments in the back of a house... one upstairs and one downstairs."
First arriving units found heavy fire conditions on the bottom floor of the apartment, but all occupants were already out of the structure, a PAFD press release said. The fire was under control in approximately 20 minutes. The Red Cross is assisting the displaced victims, the press release stated.
