Port Arthur Hope & Opportunity Event is August 12

Lamar University’s Center for Innovation Commercialization and Entrepreneurship (CICE) is partnering with faith-based and community organizations for the first ever Port Arthur Hope & Opportunity Event. The free community event with be Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Booker T. Elementary School, located on 1300 Freeman Avenue in Port Arthur, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The Hope & Opportunity Event is a combination of an employment training and placement initiative along with food distribution, back to school supply giveaway, and valuable information for self-sufficiency programs and services.

The Hope & Opportunity Event is also a platform to address the current rise of violence and community despair by providing outlets for success. The workforce development component for the Lamar University CICE is Training For Real Jobs, For Real People. CICE is training hundreds of Southeast Texas residents for in-demand jobs within construction, maritime, andhospitality industries.

Community and faith based partners for event include South East Texas Food Bank, Goodwill Industries, Salvation Army, American Red Cross, New Hope Baptist Church, Mount Sinai Baptist Church, Port Arthur Independent School District, Port Arthur Police Department and many others.
