Port Arthur man killed in hit-and-run

A Port Arthur man was killed in a hit-and-run auto-pedestrian accident occurring in the 3200 block of 8th St. in Port Arthur Sunday, Dec. 22.

Jesse Ray Ford Jr., 31, was found dead by Port Arthur Police Department officers around 2 a.m. after receiving a call that the man was lying in the road. Port Arthur Fire Department and Acadian EMS responded to the scene as well and determined the man was dead.

After further investigation involving detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division and Accident Reconstruction Team, it was determined that Ford had injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle.

Justice of the Peace Tom Gilliam arrived on scene and pronounced Ford dead. Ford was transported to the Jefferson County Morgue.

Although officers were able to obtain some evidence from the scene, PAPD has not been able to locate the driver of the vehicle, PAPD Sgt. Scott Gaspard said.
