Port Arthur man shoots at alleged burglar, no suspect found

On Jan. 1 at 11:49 p.m., the Port Arthur Police officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of Rev. Raymond Scott Avenue in reference to a man who had been shot, PAPD said in a release.

Upon arrival to the area, officers discovered that the person claiming to be shot was actually the homeowner, who stated that someone just tried to break into his home and was shot by the suspect. Officers determined during the investigation that the homeowner was not shot but cut after hitting the rear sliding glass door of his home. The incident started after the homeowner went out the back sliding glass door of his home to investigate some noises.

The homeowner did not see anyone in his yard but heard a gunshot and then started firing shots into his privacy fence in the direction of the suspect. As the homeowner ran inside his home, he struck the back sliding glass door, causing minor lacerations. The suspect was not located and the homeowner was transported to SETX Medical Center for minor lacerations.

Detectives with the Port Arthur Police Department are investigating this incident. Anyone with further information should contact the Port Arthur Criminal Investigations Division at (409) 983-8624.
