Port Arthur man shot, refuses to press charges

A Port Arthur man was shot early Saturday morning, Sept. 21 in what Port Arthur Police are calling an aggravated assault.

Around 2:07 a.m., officers were dispatched to 1049 West Seventh Street in reference to a shooting, according to a Port Arthur Police Department Offense Report obtained by The Examiner. Upon arrival, police spoke to the complainant, James Rodgers, 43, of Port Arthur, who advised police that while he was driving his 2005 Silver Cadillac Deville in the 700 block of Seventh Street, he was shot once in the leg by an unknown suspect. Rodgers told police he did not want to file charges, the report states.

The gunshot wound did not appear to be life-threatening, and Rodgers was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment of his injury, PAPD said in a press release.

PAPD Sgt. Scott Gaspard said that Rodgers was "an uncooperative complainant" and that the case would most likely be closed soon.
