Port Arthur police enforcing traffic safety during the holidays

The Thanksgiving wave of the Port Arthur Police Department's Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) concluded Nov. 28, the department said in a release.

This program is designed to increase the presence of traffic enforcement: targeting speeders, seatbelt violators / unsecured children and impaired drivers.

The Port Arthur Police Department (PAPD) partnered with TxDOT in an effort to increase compliance in these areas to help reduce contributing factors that lead to traffic accidents, with or without injuries, and fatalities. It is the desire of the Port Arthur Police Department and TxDOT to provide awareness to help the motoring public from becoming a statistic. PAPD observed an increase in compliance in these categories during the course of the program.

"We encourage motorists to continue to abide by the laws and drive safely this holiday season!" the department said.
