Port Arthur restricting water use
The severe drought gripping Southeast Texas along with the "abnormally high number of water leaks" in Port Arthur have forced the city to impose its mandatory water conservation measures, meaning a mandatory lawn watering schedule is implemented as of last Friday that stipulates even numbered addresses can only water their yards on even days and odd numbered addresses can water their yards on odd days.
As per a release from the city, "violators of this schedule will be subject to fines up to $2,000." According the utility operations department, the water company will keep an eye out for violators. Despite the outside water usage schedule, inside usage is still allowed everyday.
In an attempt to provide a "reliable supply of drinking water," the city asks citizens to report any water leaks to 409-983-8550. The number is available 24/7.
