The Humane Society Partnered with Christus St. Elizabeth for the second annual 1

For the second year in a row, Christus St. Elizabeth has partnered with the Humane Society of Southeast Texas to bring awareness to pet adoption by hosting the 12 Dogs of Christmas on Friday, Dec. 5.

St. Elizabeth’s Pet Partners program knows the value a four-legged friend brings to patients. Interaction with animals lowers blood pressure, decreases anxiety, and assists in the healing process. The Humane Society always welcomes adoption or fostering of their furry friends, and this year showcased some of the cutest and most darling doggies yet at the Outpatient Pavilion. Bailey, Bam Bam, Leo, Daisy, Drydan, Ginny, Granola, Honey Bunny, Paisley, Rusty, Shiba and Toffe were available at the outpatient center for pets, hugs, tail wags and puppy kisses.

Even though all of these pooches were special and unique in their own way, lucky No. 13 was the real star. Charming, a medium-sized mixed-breed dog, was also in attendance hoping someone would take him to his new castle. He is a special dog, one of the 12 from last year’s event and the only one not to be adopted. This charming little guy lives up to his name, and while timid at first, he will melt your heart with his beautiful brown eyes. Volunteers even made a basket to give to Charming’s new owners filled with treats, a bed and other supplies he is going to need while living the royal life.

“I just felt so bad for this poor guy,” the volunteer said. “This is the second year in a row nobody has wanted to adopt him; he deserves so much more.”

Charming’s Fairy Godmother must have heard his lonely whimpers because a new family carried him away to live happily ever after Saturday, Dec. 6, a day after the pup was sent back to the shelter after his second 12 Dogs of Christmas.

During the holidays the Humane Society has several cats and dogs sponsored by individuals who want to place these furry friends with forever families, so for select animals the adoption fee has been reduced to $25. The adoption fee includes shots, neutering or spaying, ta microchip and worming. So if you want to spend this Christmas with a sweet, cuddly, bundle of fur and happiness, be sure to fill out an application today. Charming has lots of friends who need a family too!
