Prison escapee caught

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and area authorities have captured an inmate who escaped this morning.

At approximately 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 5, Joseph Thaddeus Chenier was to be transferred to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office when he escaped from the Jefferson County Correctional Facility. According to Deputy Rod Carroll, Chenier intermingled with other inmates scheduled for release.

At 11:50 a.m., Chenier was taken back into custody by deputies with the JCSO. Chenier, who was being held on a warrant out of Calcasieu Parish for forgery, will be charged with escape.
