Quick thinking puts check forgery suspects in jail

Quick thinking by an Orange police officer led to the arrest of two suspects believed to be part of a check forgery ring, possibly based in Houston.

According to a press release from the Orange Police Department, Sgt. Sarah Jefferson observed two suspicious suspects entering the Bridge City Bank on Strickland Drive in Orange. She and two other officers had been having lunch nearby at the Wok D-Lite and she quickly notified Capt. Cliff Hargrave and Sgt. Garrod Keaton, who were still at the restaurant.

Another sergeant had a police dispatcher call the bank to check on them. The teller explained that the suspects seemed very nervous and had left before getting money for the checks they were trying to cash.

At that time, the nearby officers were notified and one suspect was taken into custody in the parking lot of the Wok D-Lite. The other suspect fled but was captured after a brief foot pursuit by Sgt. Keaton.

The two suspects have been identified as Brian Edward Jolly, 37, and Albert Lee Hubbard, 52, both of Houston.
