REB breaks ground on commercial storage warehouse in Hamshire

A groundbreaking was held Wednesday, April 13, for REB Industrial Warehouse at 15232 Hamshire Road in Hamshire.

The 60,000 square-foot commercial storage warehouse will sit on 270 acres and store equipment for local plants and industry not only from the Beaumont, Port Arthur and Orange area but also from industry in the Houston and Baytown area as well, said Ricky Blackwell, co-owner of the warehouse, which is expected to open in late July or early August. REB is a partnership between Ricky Blackwell, his father John Blackwell, and Paul Suddath. Each partner has extensive experience in the warehousing business.

The warehouse will feature two overhead cranes that will service the building and will be humidity-controlled. REB plans to build two more 60,000-square-foot warehouses on the property after the first warehouse is finished, according to Ricky. “If the refineries want us to do something specific for their storage needs, that’s where the second and third warehouse would come in,” he said.

Regina Lindsey, president of the Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce, said the warehouse would be a welcome commodity to area industry.

“It is very difficult to find crane-supported warehouses in Houston right now. So having a location between Beaumont and Houston, particularly as companies begin to look at Beaumont more because of what’s going on with the Houston economy, you’re going to have some opportunities for great things out here,” Lindsey said, referring to how the downturn in the oil and gas industry have caused cuts in jobs and spending in the Houston area. “I think it’s good timing, and the Chamber is happy to support you how we can.”

The cost of the project was not disclosed.
