Red carpet looks: Lexus GS 450h
The all-new Lexus 2013 GS 450h continues to be a leader in the hybrid-powered luxury sport sedan category it created six years ago. Combining bold, dynamic styling, 338 total system horsepower and a spacious interior, the GS 450h offers the best of all worlds with its performance, connectivity and comfort features.
Impressively, the Lexus Hybrid Drive system also features fuel consumption that is improved by more than 35 percent over the previous generation with EPA-estimated ratings of 29 mpg city, 34 mpg highway and 31 mpg combined.
Sleek and athletic, the GS 450h is a head turner with its signature grille, deep-set headlamps, shark-fin antenna for integrated Sirius XM Satellite Radio (subscription required) and L-shaped LED tail lamps.
It has a clean, flowing look that features Lexus’ signature blue hybrid badging and attractive 17-inch alloy wheels with nine-spoke design.
Finely crafted cabin
For more distinguishing design, step inside this luxury sports hybrid. For me, the most striking and luxurious characteristic was the bamboo steering rim and bamboo interior accents. I simply enjoyed looking at this dash. In addition to the elegant bamboo, the GS 450h features a clean, high-tech appearance with some old-school charm like its center analog clock with LED indicators. The clock was carved from a single ingot of aluminum for a smooth, consistent look—a nice touch.
Other interior amenities include LED ambient lighting, an 8-inch high-resolution multi-information touch screen and leather-trimmed seating, which is available in Black, flaxen or light gray. Also included is aluminum alloy “Lexus” stamped scuff plates on all door sills.
Standard entertainment and connectivity features include MP3 sound enhancement, 5.1 simulations surround-sound from normal two channel sources such as MP3 files and CD, as well as HD radio with a three-month trial subscription to SiriusXM Satellite Radio.
For discriminating consumers, there are additional options like the Luxury Package, which includes items such as a unique high gloss espresso wood ornamentation, semi-aniline leather, 18-way power front seats with memory, rear HVAC and audio controls and 18-inch alloy wheels.
By adding the optional navigation system, GS owners can enjoy an industry-first 12.3-inch, split-screen, high-resolution multi-media display large enough to support simultaneous, split-screen viewing of a map display, plus audio, climate or other vehicle information.
The available 17-speaker Mark Levinson premium surround sound audio system has 7.1 channel surround-sound through 10 channels using a new Class D digital amplifier with a clean 835-watts from 20-20,000 hz at only 0.01 percent total harmonic distortion.
Combining high-end looks and performance with cutting edge hybrid technology, the Lexus GS 450h has impressive credentials. To learn more about this high achiever, visit www.lexus.com.
