Severely impacted households that need immediate assistance can also apply at redcross.org/HHIA. The American Red Cross relaunched its financial assistance program Thursday, Sept. 21. As of Sept. 28, the Red Cross had authorized more than $148 million in direct financial assistance to help more than 370,000 Texas households, Durousseau reported. Those who have already applied but have not heard from the Red Cross within the 24-hour window do not need to reapply, she added. The Red Cross is still processing applications and will contact everyone who has applied as soon as possible.
