Reported alligator attack results in fatality

A man found dead in Adams Bayou was reportedly killed by an alligator near Burkart's Marina in Orange in the early morning hours of July 3, reports the Orange Police Department.

According to a news release from OPD, the body of a 28-year-old man was discovered at 4:29 a.m. after police were dispatched to the marina at 1802 Mississippi St. in Orange at about 2:30 a.m. regarding a reported alligator attack. Upon arrival at the location, officers learned that a man and woman were swimming in the bayou when the man was suddenly attacked by a large alligator.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene with a boat and a Texas Parks and Wildlife game warden.

About two hours later, authorities discovered Woodward’s body in the water near the reported location of the incident. A TPWD press release said his injuries were consistent with an alligator attack. Orange County Judge Rodney Price ordered an autopsy.
