Russian citizen dead in Beaumont as result of industrial accident

An industrial accident resulted in the death of a Russian man employed on a ship docked in Beaumont on Tuesday, Aug. 12, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office reports.

According to a news release from JCSO, 44-year-old Andrey Pakholchuk of Russia was killed aboard the Mystic Striker, a ship owned and operated by Enterprise Shipping & Trading, S.A., based in Athens, Greece. JCSO reports that at approximately 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12, the office was notified of an industrial accident on a ship docked at the ExxonMobil Refinery Dock. The victim was reportedly struck by a mooring line that snapped causing him to fall to the deck below. He was treated by the ExxonMobil Emergency response team and Beaumont EMS. Pakholchuk, the vessel's Chief Officer, was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Ransom “Duce” Jones, who ordered an autopsy.

The investigation is continuing awaiting the autopsy results.
