Santa comes early for Interstate 10 driver

A Jefferson County Sherriff’s Deputy gave a 27-year-old woman from Richmond an early Christmas gift the morning of Monday, Dec. 24. When the deputy was “working radar” on Interstate 10 near Boyt Road he clocked a woman speeding. When he lit up his lights and siren, the woman kept on driving, though, she didn't try to speed up and flee, she just didn't stop. Law enforcement units from several agencies came to assist. The woman finally pulled over at I-10 and Major Drive. After getting her out of the car, the deputy discovered that the female only had a drivers permit. Her parents were traveling in a separate car behind her. The driver had the family Christmas packages in her car and was going to Lafayette, LA for a family Christmas. The driver was kind, compliant and terrified at the same time.

The deputy allowed her to be on her way with her family to Louisiana for a merry Cajun Christmas. Jefferson County Sherriff’s Office wanted to remind citizens that traffic safety is not just about writing tickets it's about safety.
