Separate Accidents in Port Arthur lead to fatality and broken leg
It was a dangerous and deadly weekend on Port Arthur roads.
A 35-year-old League City man died from injuries he sustained early Saturday morning when the SUV he was driving struck a concrete divider at what police call "highway speeds." The accident occurred in the 1100 block of State Highway 73 westbound, just west of the Savannah Overpass, according to a release from Port Arthur Police Sgt. Shawn Perron. The driver was identified as Adam Dicks. He was taken to the Southeast Texas Medical Center where he died from his injuries. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
On Friday, in the 3200 block of 11th Street in Port Arthur, a six-year-old girl was struck by a grey Honda Accord as she crossed the street. The vehicle did not stop after the accident and continued on. Fortunately, once at the scene, police were given a description of the car, but before they could begin their search, the driver of the car returned to the scene and identified himself. He told police he left the scene because he was scared but after careful consideration, elected to turn himself in to police. The girl was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital with a broken leg.
