Serious accident in Vidor injures six

A head-on collision in Vidor resulted in multiple serious injuries with one of the vehicle knocked off the roadway, rolling multiple times before stopping.

According to a news release from the Vidor Police Department, dispatch received a call at 8:12 p.m. on Aug. 6 reporting a major accident involving a head-on collision at the intersection of SH-12 and Evengeline Lane near Quiet Village.

Police responded to the scene, reports Chief Rod Carroll. The first unit on-scene requested additional units and emergency responders due to six patients with obvious severe injuries. Orange County ESD #1 arrived at the scene of the accident and began extrication of individuals entrapped within one of the vehicles involved. A total of six patients were transported to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital by Acadian Ambulance Service. One patient was listed in critical condition. The patient has since had surgery and was still critical at last report. Another was listed in serious condition and has since been released from the hospital. Four patients sustained "non-life threatening" injuries and were released from the hospital.  

The investigation of the collision is ongoing. Police stated that "it appears unit 1 was eastbound on SH-12 when it attempted to make a left turn onto Evangeline, crossing paths with unit 2 that was westbound on SH-12" when the collision occurred.
