Sheriff’s office investigates potential voter fraud attempt

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating a possible attempt at voter fraud following their receipt of information from the County Clerk's office that an individual requested an election ballot for a deceased person, reports Deputy Marcus McLellan.

According to McLellan, the sheriff’s office is currently investigating the complaint from the County Clerk's office. If they determine the complaint is substantiated, the suspect in the case could be charged with providing false information on application, a state jail felony, which holds a penalty of up to two years in jail and/or up to a $10,000 fine.
