Sheriff's office cautions drivers after deputy struck by vehicle

On August 17, a Jefferson County Sheriff's deputy was injured while working an off duty job at the ExxonMobil refinery on Hwy 90 in Beaumont, Deputy Marcus McLellan said in a release.

The deputy was working traffic control at the crossover intersection in front of ExxonMobil when his vehicle was struck on the driver’s side by another vehicle. He was trapped inside the vehicle and was extricated by EDS3. He was transported to an area hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle was also transported to an area hospital for minor injuries. Both were treated and released.

ExxonMobil has hired several deputies to work traffic control on Hwy 90 at their refinery on Hwy 90 since the start of the refinery expansion. We would like to remind everyone to drive with caution through this area and pay attention to any electronic signs, since this project will be continuing for at least another 18 months.
