Shooting at Galveston night club

On Monday, Feb. 5, at about 3:15 a.m., the Galveston Police Department received a 911 call that a shooting had just occurred in the 1800 block of Strand Street and that one person had been shot, the department said in a release.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim of the shooting who was still coherent, as well as possible witnesses, and learned that the shooting had taken place inside of La Playa, a nightclub located on the corner of 19th St and Strand Street. Officers attempted to secure the scene of the shooting, but found the club to be locked, however, while on location, it became apparent that there was still someone inside the building. Officers began loud hailing the persons inside, instructing them to come out, and after some time, several individuals exited the nightclub.

Investigators immediately began questioning the individuals concerning the shooting in an attempt to locate any suspects. This information, along with other information gathered from the scene, indicated that there was a possibility the suspect may still have been inside La Playa. Investigators then secured a search warrant for the establishment at 1828 Strand Street, and due to a level of elevated precaution, Galveston SWAT was utilized to serve the search warrant. After clearing the establishment, no other subjects were found inside the building; however, officers were able to locate and secure the believed crime scene.
